Data Extraction for Healthcare Claims Processing

Executive Summary

The client wanted us to develop an application that would help them automate the high volume and arduous task of extracting data arriving from multiple sources and assist in claim processing. We built them a solution that extracts data from the ROI request forms, presents it to an operator for validation, and after doing so passes the results back to ROI Online through its API. Mindfire Solutions has implemented custom machine vision, natural language processing (NLP), and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) within the application to facilitate attended automation of the logging-and-assignment workflows. The logging-and-assignment application also enables the operator to pragmatically forecast the productivity gains that automation yields when deployed at scale on the Kubernetes cluster.

BI-DIRECTIONAL INTERFACE - EMR & QUEST DIAGNOSTICS

PQRI-QRDA MODULE DEVELOPMENT

Executive Summary

One of our EMR clients approached us to setup a bidirectional interface from their EMR with Quest Diagnostics®, the world’s leader in diagnostic laboratory testing, information, and services. The client had a very tight deadline in mind and also this was of primary importance to get their business expanded. This case study describes the successful implementation of a solution to meet this requirement.

handsome-physician-having-appointment-1-1-1

About our Client

Client Description: A leading EMR Company

Client Location: Kansas, USA

Industry: Healthcare

Business Situation

Our client, a leading EMR vendor in the USA, wanted to integrate with Quest Diagnostics. The interface would have to be a bi-directional one. The orders for tests would be sent electronically from within the EMR application and the results would also be received electronically. The key challenges included:

  • The EMR in question is a web based Service oriented one. So there are many tenants and the Quest interface should be easy to switch on/off at individual tenant level.
  • The interface should work seamlessly without too many modifications to the existing Lab Interface system of the client.
  • Quest has many Business Units (BU) spread across the United States and individual tenants would have their own preference on the Business Unit to interface with.
  • Each BU will have its own set of master lookup values of lab tests (the compendium) and the set would differ from one BU to another.
  • The interface should be able to handle 1000s of simultaneous requests.
  • The EMR application being a web based system, the new program should be developed in such a way that it should reside in one place (our client’s data centre) and meet all the challenges listed above.

Achievements

  • The full implementation was done in record time, enabling our client to successfully establish Bi-Directional interfacing with Quest, Passed around 120 test cases (given and tested by Quest Diagnostics) that are tough, tests the system to the core.
  • Takes 5 – 10 minutes to enable the interface for a new tenant/clinic and 2 minutes to disable the same for a clinic, Full control of the interface with our client/our developers. So easier to maintain.

PQRI-QRDA MODULE DEVELOPMENT

Executive Summary

This project was for one of our existing clients, who was interested in developing a module, to be appended with their EMR application. The module to be developed was PQRI-QRDA. PQRI or Physician Quality Reporting Initiative is a government based plan where in each and every physician needs to report 10 quality measure files. Each measure is to consist of a denominator based on CPT, HCPCS, and ICD codes. If the files were found to be in good format then the physicians would be paid. Keeping this objective in mind the client approached Mindfire Solutions to take up the work. As the client had previously worked with Mindfire’s team he was aware of the capability that its team possesses.

close-up-specialist-filling-out-form-1-1-1

Mindfire’s team took up the challenge and developed a module that populated QRDA (XML) files. The module was developed using ASP.Net 4.0, C# 4.0.

About our Client

Client Description: Healthcare Service Provider

Client Location: USA

Industry: Healthcare

Business Situation

The client had an existing EMR application and his requirement was to develop a module within a short period of time. This module to be developed needs to be integrated with the current system in order to feed correct data to the application.

medical-records-report-stethoscope-medical-concept-1-1-1-1

With their current alerting system, physicians can search their database for all patients in the practice who have these specific codes documented within the past 12 months, create a report and then create & send QRDA or Quality Reporting Document Architecture file for each of them. For this the client needs to be focused in order not to miss out any of the values in the QRDA file. There should not remain any scope for errors as Fed rules were to be followed. To get this task done, the client was after developing an automated system, which would avoid manual tasks and can ultimately strike out room for errors while feeding the system.

They had the idea ready but were in search of a reliable development partner who could convert their vision into reality. They came across Mindfire Solutions and shared their idea. In quick time, Mindfire prepared a proposal for the client’s need, suggesting to develop the portal using SharePoint 2007 to best fit their context. Our clients were delighted with the professionalism in Mindfire’s approach and the merit of our proposal and agreed to begin development after going through proposals from other vendors. This SharePoint healthcare case study illustrates how we developed the SharePoint portal to help connect and empower neonatal nurses to work together more efficiently.

About our Client

Client Description: Health Management

Client Location: Canada

Industry: Healthcare

Business Situation

This client’s intent was to develop a portal for neonatal nurses to collaborate among themselves as well as with other healthcare providers, both nationally and internationally, to gather and share information related to healthcare decision making, policy development and care for newborns. The portal was also meant to promote knowledge sharing for effective and innovative approaches for neonatal nursing practices and changes in health policy. Registered users were to be allowed to share knowledge, experiences and ideas with other health care providers who chose to participate. The idea was to develop two different zones, one for the Administrators to handle their required tasks which included content management on different pages and the other for the external users (nurses).

MEANINGFUL USE OF CLINICAL CARE DOCUMENT

Executive Summary

The project deals with Clinical Care Document (CCD), its description, structure, transfer and its accessibility to its users. Clinical Care Document is the result of the combination of Continuity Of Care Record (CCR) and Clinical Document Architecture (CDA).

Medical notes Hands of contemporary professional over papers making medical notes on insurance document[/caption]

CCR is a core data set of the most relevant administrative, demographic, and clinical information about a patient’s healthcare covering one or more healthcare encounters. It provides a means for one healthcare practitioner to aggregate all of the pertinent data about a patient and transfer it to another practitioner to support the continuity of care.

The HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) is a document markup standard that specifies the structure and semantics of clinical documents for the purpose of exchange. In EMR applications, CCD data transfer can be done in a number of ways ; CCD Summary & Progress Note being a couple of them.

The Prescriber Benefits implementation is used for developing and transferring messages needed to provide PBM member data (eligibility information, pharmacy benefit coverage, and group-specific formulary information) to physicians in an ambulatory setting.

medical-insurance-concept_1098-18315

The Prescription Benefit service puts eligibility, benefits and formulary information at a prescriber’s fingertips at the time of prescribing. This enables prescribers to select medications that are on formulary and are covered by the patient’s drug benefit. It also informs them of lower cost alternatives such as generic drugs and ultimately ensures that the staff in the pharmacy receives a “clean” prescription. Unnecessary phone calls from pharmacy staff to physician practices related to drug coverage are reduced.

HANSOFT BUG TRACKING SYSTEM

Executive Summary

One of the largest online gaming service providers identified the need to migrate from its older bug tracking system into a Hansoft integrated bug tracking system. The need was more for a project management system which would enable him to track and monitor the status of each bug or defect reported. It was meant to be web-based app because the company wanted its end-users, the gamers/players to be a part of the beta testing efforts. The complexity multiplied because the customer wanted localization in the website as well. In addition, search facility also needed to be provided. The search process complicated the localization process more. The customer opted for Mindfire because we had various game development projects running for the same client in various platforms which included Online Games, Mobile and Video games. The challenge was Hansoft integration and localization for all the areas where the client was operating and was planning to enter into. Mindfire took up the challenge for Hansoft integration. Within a few months, the site was successfully completed. Mindfire stood up to the expectations of the client and strengthened its business relationship with the customer.

Business Situation

Bug tracking is the preliminary step to assessing the quality in the product. This assessment of quality is important because the product eventually becomes synonymous with the brand of the business. Hence defect tracking or bug tracking as it is popularly called becomes important. The end-customer being a gaming services client, where minor bugs can spoil the gaming experience of the user, special focus was given to the way in which bugs are captured and tracked. Not very happy with the existing bug tracking system, the client wanted to have Hansoft integration into a web based bug tracking system. The system has to be used by the users (gamers) worldwide to submit defects/bugs as they play the games. Hence localization had to be done. The client needed this to be done quickly and Mindfire took up the project. With years of game development and portal development projects, Mindfire proposed the initial model of the website. Happy with the design and overall architecture of the system, the customer gave the go ahead to Mindfire to proceed with the development of the system.

SYSPRO BASED ORDER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Executive Summary

The impact of automation in a manufacturing set-up is profound. It streamlines not just the production process but also helps optimize labor costs, reduce waste and enhance quality control. It also helps to integrate existing business units which were earlier operating in silos. This brings forth an increase in product output and has a direct impact on the revenue earned. The flip side of incorporating automation into business includes high initial costs and increased maintenance costs. Perhaps that was the reason why our client, who is in the business of selling fashion accessories for the fashion conscious sports aficionados and university students, did not have automation in place. Once a successful business they realized that in order to be competitive they had to have a system that helped all business units interact with each other and fill in the gaps caused due to lack of information.

The turning point in their business arrived when one day the management decided to invest in automation for streamlining operations. As they were a manufacturing unit, they needed to have a software development partner who would work on the backend integrating all the business functions to ensure smooth operations. They selected Mindfire Solutions from a shortlist of 4 companies. Mindfire Solutions has since then been their primary software services provider.

As our client belonged to the SME category they decided to go ahead with the SYSPRO ERP software as the backend. Mindfire created a middleware solution that would interact with SYSPRO at the backend and the ecommerce site at the front end and seamlessly integrate the orders into the production schedule.

SHAREPOINT GOVERNANCE ASSURANCE SYSTEM

Executive Summary

This SharePoint case study focuses on the development of a unique system, namely Governance Assurance System, which can calculate Risks and Impacts faced by an organization at any given time. It is a set of tools for managing and understanding Risk and assisting the user to achieve good Governance and can only be operated and controlled by the users subscribed to it. The idea to develop such a system was the result of long discussions at the client side focusing upon the various challenges and demands that were being faced by sectors of the industry and, in particular, those that resulted in an increased financial burden or that placed increasing demands on resources. The client’s research team focused on core realizations with the aim to develop a single system to resolve every issue they encountered.

Mindfire Solutions was approached to develop the system. Mindfire’s SharePoint Team developed a high-quality product along the proposed architecture and specifications. At the time of delivery, the client was delighted to receive a robust, scalable, and easy-to-use system within the time-frame they wanted.

About our Client

Client Description: Software Service Provider

Client Location: UK

Industry : Software

Business Situation

The necessity to develop a Governance Assurance System aroused after our client encountered challenges by certain sectors of the industry that resulted in an increased financial burden. They were constantly facing issues and decided to develop a single system to resolve them. There was no such system in place that could handle the below mentioned issues:

close-up-photo-female-hand-holding-stylus-tablet-indoor-portrait-freelance-web-developer-working-project-during-coffee-break-office_197531-3745

Lack of Good Governance, compliance and AML procedures.

Limited current returns and recent events encouraged diversification.
Risk and the Assessment of Risk form the basis for Regulatory compliance.

Compliance processes were based upon Legislative and Regulatory interpretation and were therefore similar in nature and scope across institutions.

Regulated parties were not able to interact with and demonstrate compliance to Regulators quickly and cost-effectively for their own benefit.
Regulated parties were also not able to interact quickly and cost-effectively for their customers benefit.

Third Party choice was based on Compliance consideration, which was difficult for another deserving party with good merit and interest.

To resolve these issues, the client came up with the idea to develop a single system that would be capable of providing Risk and Impact assessments of:

Customers

About our Client

Client Description: Material Handling Company

Client Location: MA, USA

Industry: Distribution & Order Fulfillment.

Business Situation

The customer had clear issues with the existing ways to manage their Personal Time Off for their organization. They required an automated process for managing and approving the leave application for each employee in their organization. The flow of the process to be followed is as follows:

  • Requester Clicks on Request PTO.
  • Fills out form. Submitting the form will initiate the workflow.
  • Supervisor is notified about the task of approving the PTO.
  • Supervisor approves.
  • Requester is then assigned a task, and receives an e-mail notification of the task at the specified end.
  • Requester is then notified of approval with a link to the new task.
  • Requester then confirms his actual hours via the task.
  • Supervisor is notified to confirm actual hours.
  • A task is assigned to Finance, but an e-mail notification does not occur for 21 days only if the task remains uncompleted.
  • As part of payroll process, Finance enters information from their tasks.

They also had a special scenario wherein the Requester applying for leave can change the leave plan even though the leave application is already approved by the Supervisor. The client had a requirement for changing the Supervisor details of an employee, to generate the PTO Reports based on certain filter condition here.
